Modus Operandi

2025    Exhibitor, group exhibition Society of Graphic Fine Art, Mall                        Galleries, London.

Artists are a bit like actors or musicians, you work alone and hope for the best, we need to have a thicker skin as it is not possible to please everyone, and frequently, no-one. Those that can, do, those that cannot, teach, the rest either appreciate or criticize. I have been accused of being too academic in style, even old fashioned, but I am happy not to be confused with the Avant Garde which seems now to be the norm.
I ascribe to a Japanese word Sashimasu which means to point,
I am pointing at things that interest me visually, and present a challenge graphically and artistically.
Objects that most people might walk past, perhaps without choosing to notice.
I use the Japanese word so as not to be confused with Pointillism.
I have no record of much of my past work, I just didn't photograph it, so many commissions are lost in the ether, who knew, or guessed, of the arrival of
the internet before 1995, not me, obviously?

The past revisited.

Abandoned

Having spent most of my life living in the countryside and walking my dogs, I have always been intrigued by abandoned things one comes across, particularly farm machinery. Parked one day by someone, who is never to return. Not always machines one is familiar with, unless you are a farmer, and that makes them fascinating graphically. I have produced drawing and graphics based on these machines or parts of them, since the nineteen sixties.
